2017 WING-OFF ANNOUNCEMENTS
New Home and Entertainment Release
Saturday June 17, 2017 the Western Maryland Jaycees host the Tri-State Wing-Off, a daylong competition where wing-serving restaurants fry up thousands of chicken wings to be eaten and judged by the public for numerous awards including the prestigious title of 2017 Tri-State Wing-Off Champion! The 7th annual Wing-Off will be an all-day extravaganza filled with amazing and unique wings, plenty of cold beer, lots of entertainment and some awesome music.
Thomas Cumberland has signed on as the main sponsor for the 4th consecutive year, headlining a list of dedicated local partners who have continually supported the event. Other long term sponsors already committed for this year include First Peoples Community FCU, Aircon Engineering, Rehab 1st, and Allegany College of Maryland.
The 2017 Thomas Cumberland Tri-State Wing-Off will have a new home at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club Festival Grounds after a 6 year stretch at Canal Place in Downtown Cumberland. Per a statement from the committee, the relocation leaves lots of room for growth.
“It was a tough decision for us to leave our ole stompin’ grounds, trust us. We had event logistics down to a science there and loved being smack dab in the middle of Cumberland. The long and short answer is: INCREASES. Increases in attendance numbers and increases in cost. At the end of the day, the Wing-Off is a fundraiser for many local non-profits and we are committed to its growth. Our new locale comes with a lot of new possibilities for expansion, and saves our bottom line thousands of dollars in facilities costs. We also have enough room to bring back the Kid Zone and get back to making this a family friendly event. We have numerous plans in motion for transportation to and from Downtown Cumberland and local hotels. We’re excited for you to see what we have planned!”
The change in locale has also granted the opportunity to form a partnership with the Friends Aware Ox Roast, which takes place the night before. We’re in discussions with their planning team to see how we can share some costs, and offer a special ticket type that would gain patrons entry to both events.
2016 was a record year, with patrons in attendance from a whopping 17 states along the east coast. The growing attraction of the festival is namely due to the stellar lineup of nationally recognized musical entertainment. 2017 will be no different, as the line-up includes multiple groups who have received Billboard Chart notoriety, and a bluegrass social media sensation. The Jaycees are excited to announce commitments from the following groups: The Davisson Brothers Band, Iron Horse, Old 97s, Turnpike Troubadours, and The Cordovas. For additional information on each group, please visit the entertainment tab of http://www.tristatewingoff.com.
For the third year running, the Jaycees will offer a onetime weekend ticket special dubbed “Wing-Off Weekend.” From March 31-April 2, patrons can secure their festival tickets for ½ price, at just $15. Additional details and purchasing links can be found on our website.
The Tri-State Wing-Off is our largest fundraiser of the year and has allowed the Jaycees to give back abundantly.
